Merry Christmas 2005

It's funny, the things you keep from childhood. My grandfather loved making home movies. He took our first movies on film, then got a video cassette camera as soon as it was available. He wore a big battery pack on his belt, and the tape went in a recorder that he carried with a shoulder strap. The camera was connected to the recorder with a heavy cable. He would always start our Christmas videos by having us say "Merry Christmas 1979" or whatever year it was.

Papa passed away in 1988. This year I shot a short video of my daughter, and without thinking I had her start off with "Merry Christmas 2005." I shot it in video mode of my little Pentax Optio WPi that my wife gave me for Christmas. It is about the same size as the handle on that video camera I remember from my childhood. He would have loved these cameras we use now.

Away in a Manger

I have hung this ornament on the Christmas tree every year for as long as I can remember. When I was a child, I thought I had really figured out something great because I put it where a light shined into the stable just like the star that guided the wise men.

As I said, I have hung this one every year. When I was away from home at school, my mother held it out fro me until I came home. When I got married, she gave it to me for my new family's tree. This will be the first year that I hang this ornament with my daughter and explain to her about the star.

She is almost 4 years old, and will enjoy getting to help me find a bare spot on the tree that is close to a light. I'm not sure she will listen long enough to get the whole story, but I hope she retains the most important part - that God sent his Son to us, to be one of us, and to be our Savior.

A Little Rest for Weary Travelers

Traveling through Locust Grove late at night this Christmas weekend? All the stores and gas stations closed? Don't worry. The good folks of our fair town have taken care of you. Just behind the old library on Hwy 42. It might be a little cold this time of year, but you can take care of business...

December 22 - Santa Watch

Well, we know how Santa keeps himself in shape. He eats at Zaxby's.

The Equalizer

Macon Telegraph story about a 75 year old man who shot and killed a burglar. The criminal was about one third of our hero's age and had been in jail 12 times in the previous 3 years.

It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas

We rarely get snow around here, so our first sign of Christmas is the gingerbread houses the children make after Thanksgiving dinner at my parent's house.
